BEST WHITE WINE ON EARTH: THE RIESLING STORY
Although the Riesling grape was developed in Germany, it is now cultivated worldwide. In the United States during the past five years, the acreage devoted to it has increased more rapidly than that of any other varietal. Pigott, a British wine journalist, is emphatic in his appreciation of Riesling and determined to wipe away the impression that all Rieslings are sweet and a bit simple. In chapters on each of the major Riesling-producing regions, he highlights the grape’s versatility as well as the characteristics that might allow one to distinguish a Riesling from New York’s Finger Lakes from one grown on the banks of the Rhone or in South America. A great way to begin exploring in depth the character of a single grape variety.
