Pleasures of the Table
This product has sold out.
Food-themed literary anthologies have been common enough over the last several decades that it is refreshing when one comes along that includes material which has not previously been mined by other editors. Hardyment, who has written several well-regarded culinary social histories, does a lively job here, drawing on sources that range from Chaucer, Giorgio Vasari, and Tobias Smollett to Washington Irving, DH Lawrence, and Sylvia Plath. Color period-appropriate illustrations appear throughout.
