Para Llevar is new periodical dedicated to the stories of hospitality and service workers.
This issue focuses on the staff of The Wassaic Lantern, an old inn and motorcycle dive bar repurposed into a restaurant in a small town near the Connecticut border in Dutchess County, New York.
Seasonally arranged photo essays and short profiles capture the lives and interests of the restaurant's staff, both in and away from the kitchen and bar. Their adaptation through the pandemic, its effects on their sense of comradery and pleasure in hospitality are significant themes. But so too is a sense of preservation and serendipity and freedom that explain in part why hospitality attracts free spirits.
