This is the debut issue of a magazine dedicated to art and cultural anthropology, and for this issue at least, concerned with food and its connection to cultural intersection, disappearance, and loss.
Published in both Chinese and English, in a limited run of 2000 copies, Te Magazine includes contributions from writers in the fields of anthropology, sociology, and contemporary art.
Among the articles, Cao Yu explores the addictive qualities of betel nut across a range of cultures and eras. Photographer Wolfgang Tilmans's still lifes present tableaus which may be composed, may be candid but are certainly immediate. Yia Vang offers recipes for foods that Hmong immigrants in the US made here, continuing their tradition of adapting to new lands.
