The beloved Loaves & Fishes cookshop on Long Island’s East End pays tribute to local farms and seasonal produce in what will be an eventual 12-volume set of smart, stylish, handsomely photographed clothbound books.
Loaves & Fishes proprietor Sybille van Kempen—who opened the original store alongside her mother, the legendary Anna Pump—worked with local chef Licia Kassim Householder to showcase wonderful things to prepare using milk, cheese, turkey, pork, and beef, along with some satisfying side dishes. Most of the recipes are hearty, winter-is-coming comfort fare, from country sausage gravy and turkey empanadas to a cheese toastie with pear mostarda and pumpkin pie with brown sugar meringue.
Handsomely packaged, almost like little gift books (just under 8 inches square and 72 pages long), the Loaves & Fishes Farm Series volumes are strongly evocative of both time and place and likely to become well used in seasonal kitchens and year-round.
Hardcover. Color photographs throughout.
