It’s true that not everyone loves a Negroni, but for those who do, it seems there can never be enough variations on its balance of bitter and sweet.
Matt Hranek, founder of the men’s lifestyle magazine Wm Brown, presents more than 30 variations on this early 20th-century cocktail, as well as some confident advice on choice of bitter, vermouth, gin, and other essential elements.
Many versions come from Italy, the cocktail’s homeland, but given the drink’s popularity, it’s not surprising that bartenders in other places have their own renditions. Or that even the great Spanish surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel had a favorite recipe, which is reproduced here.
