The Oranges of Sicily: A Culinary History of the World's Most Important Fruit

Handsome and informative, this compact book, imported from Italy, offers a brief, evocative history of citrus in Sicily, along with lovely photographs and 30 recipes.
Although the title mentions oranges, the volume also includes lemons, mandarins, and citrons. It celebrates not only their culinary uses but their cosmetic use and their medicinal lore. Included in that last appear to be the salutary effect that citrus has had on countless visitors to Sicily, including the poetical Goethe and much more straitlaced Freud. The recipes seem more imaginative than traditional, and often pair citrus with seafood or vegetables.
Hardcover. Color photographs throughout.
