Although it purports to something of a guide book, A Table in Paris is more of an aide-memoire, an evocation of place that will be most powerful for those who miss dining at legendary spots. Author and illustrator John Donohue has enlisted an abundance of food authorities to offer recollections of dining everywhere from Apicius to Le Wepler near Sacre Coeur. Contributors include the likes of Ruth Reichl and Dana Cowin, Michael Ruhlman and Alexander Lobrano.

Donohue’s own contributions are sketches of many of Paris’ most memorable spots, from L’Ami Louis to Zerda Café, an Algerian eatery in the 10th that will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2021. His very brief descriptions don’t always add to our understanding of why he selected a place for inclusion, but his drawings always seem to evoke the best things about Paris.

Hardcover. Line illustrations.
