by John Cage and Lois Long

This is a 1988 reprint of a 500-copy edition published several years earlier by the celebrated avant-garde composer John Cage and designer Lois Long. A cheerful parody of both art books and cookbooks, the Mud Book offers wry recipes not only for mud pies but for a more ambitious mud layer cake and other creations. Technique (pebble sizing, soil-to-water ratios, etc.) is given considerable emphasis. The silk screened illustrations add to the playfulness and artistic eye of the authors.

Delightful, imaginative little hardcover book—5” by 5,” printed on heavy paper stock, bound in tan cloth with a spine lettered in gilt. A great gift for the young and young at heart. Fine by all accounts.
