OP: How to Make 32 After-Sports Drinks
Southern Comfort Corporation, 1960. Staplebound pamphlet. Good.
“Nothing like relaxing with friends after sports…comparing the catch, lamenting the lie of a ball, reminiscing with cronies of long standing. It’s a part of the game, almost as much as the sport itself…”
Here’s a ten-page (4.5” x 8”) promotional pamphlet issued in the April 15, 1961 TV Guide, with seven cocktail recipes, each featuring Southern Comfort, from fine drinking establishments around the country. Among them:
- Honolulu Cooler from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu, HI
- Comfort Manhattan from Jimmy’s Harborside in Boston, MA
- Scarlett O’Hara from The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV
- Comfort on the Rocks from Sun Valley Lodge, ID
Each featured drink gets its own page with accompanying illustrations in an eye-catching pulp style. Southern Comfort has also generously included three additional cocktails per page, which don’t call for the whiskey.
Very clearly marketed toward men—but we’d say the drinks can be universally enjoyed. Ours is only Good with a heavy bend to a top corner and the front and rear covers detached from the stapled binding.
