by Parents’ Magazine

Parents’ Magazine Press, 1969. Hardcover. Very Good in Good jacket. Revised edition.

Though its packaging gives the impression of a gift shop souvenir, The First Ladies Cook Book, first issued in 1965, is a serious sampling of anecdotes and dishes enjoyed by every president from Washington to Nixon.

Heavily illustrated with historical art, documents, and photography—including reproduced meals and the state china under each administration—the book is a pleasant sampling of presidential trivia and recipes. Despite the title, the emphasis on first ladies only really seems to be in that they served as figureheads for the domestic and hostess side of White House functions. The reportage is all-encompassing.

We have a couple of copies of the 1969 revised edition to offer, all in similar condition. The book blocks are clean and unmarked with the handsomely illustrated cases slightly shelfworn. All include their jackets, however, the paper itself is very brittle and chipping heavily. We’ve put them in mylar sleeves to protect them from further damage.
