Eight years after the previous edition of this important reference was published, this fifth iteration of the award-winning The Oxford Companion to Wine has been expanded by more than 250 new articles. Every one of the earlier entries has been reviewed and updated.
More than 260 different contributors, from more than 30 countries, offer their expertise on everything from wine production in Africa and Afghanistan to grape varieties, the histories of prominent wineries, the effects of soil conditions, harvest and production practices, and important organizations and institutions.
Entries are arranged alphabetically. A helpful list of entries by region and topic allows browsers who might, for instance, be interested in Spanish wine matters, to browse a list which leads them from Abona to Yecla.
There are maps of current and historical wine regions of importance and a useful appendix listing all of the world’s controlled appellations and their permitted grape varieties.
We cannot imagine a more thorough reference for anyone who is involved in the production or sale of wine.
Hardcover. Color photographs throughout. 944 pages.
