Ostensibly a guide but more honestly a tribute, this survey of Mexico City taquerias has a subtitle that proclaims that it offers, "By far the best."
Handsomely and vividly photographed, the book is bound in bright yellow full cloth. Establishments are rated according to a golden sun system: one suns are pride of their neighborhood; two suns are respected among connoisseurs, usually for a distinctive element; and three suns are those places worth travelling to, no matter where one is when the craving strikes.
It says something about Mexico City taco culture that there's a chapter here called "Morning Tacos," and it's as substantial as those for lunch or evening. Profiles of the different taquerias help illuminate the depth and complexity of taco-making in CDMX. We learn about regional specialties imported from elsewhere in the country, and how some vendors move around the city as the week goes on, favoring a different neighborhood each day of the week.
This is the first of a series of projected books by Guia Domingo, a collaborative effort by a group of writers, photographers, and designers who are passionately interested in gastronomy and culture, but especially tacos. They envision 10 similar books, with Tijuana their next project.
The book is written and published in Mexico, and we're pleased to be able to offer it in both English and Spanish-language editions.
