Wander, Eat, and Tell Walking Tour of the Lower East Side
Date: Sunday July 21, 2024
Time: 9:30 am –3:00 pm
Join us for an immersive culinary field trip through the historic neighborhoods of Lower Manhattan! Led by Annette Tomei, you'll taste the diverse flavors of the immigrant cultures that have shaped these streets over the past century as we explore Little Italy, Chinatown, and the Lower East Side.
Our journey begins in Little Italy, sampling traditional sweet and savory delights from two of the neighborhood’s oldest vendors. Next, we'll wander into Chinatown to shop like locals and savor its unique specialties. On the Lower East Side, we'll visit the last traditional pickle maker before heading to Essex Market—NYC’s oldest public market—for a hands-on cooking class using ingredients we've gathered along the way.
To conclude our adventure, we'll indulge our sweet tooth with visits to two distinct candy stores. We'll salute the old market building en route to Roni-Sue’s Chocolates, with a quick stop at the famous Economy Candy. At Roni-Sue’s, we'll relax in a hidden patio, enjoying handmade treats, cool drinks, and a 25-minute guided food and drink journaling session—the perfect end to our Wander, Eat & Tell experience!
